Temple trip coming up soon!

Hello Brethren! With TS Fay behind us and another Hurricane brewing, this is a good time to make sure we are fully prepared. Make sure your family and your home teaching families are ready if another storm heads our way.

This week, our lesson is from April 2008 General Conference Talk, by Elder Robert D. Hales, entitled Gaining a Testimony of God the Father; His Son, Jesus Christ; and the Holy Ghost. You can find this talk here: http://lds.org/ldsorg/v/index.jsp?vgnextoid=2354fccf2b7db010VgnVCM1000004d82620aRCRD&locale=0&sourceId=9312558fcc599110VgnVCM100000176f620a____&hideNav=1

Our lesson will be taught by Joe this week. Please be prepared by reading and pondering this talk before Sunday.

Also this Sunday, we'll be discussing our Temple trip, which is tentatively set for Sept. 12th and the food drive that we will be doing with the ward sometime in the middle of September.

We are thankful for your service and prayers. May everyone have a great week!

Love,

Sam

Ready for some fun and BBQ?

Hello Elders! It's almost time for our BBQ at the Munns, this Saturday starting at 6PM. Everyone is free to bring a snack, side dish, or dessert, although Hot Dogs and Drinks will be provided. We'll be playing Volleyball, there will be swimming and much more! Please bring your families along.

The month is getting shorter and shorter, please remember to see your home teaching families. Let's keep them in our prayers and thoughts.

With school coming up soon, don't forget about father's blessings. These can give them a greater confidence to overcome the peer pressure that infests our schools.

This week our lesson is Chapter 15 in the Joseph Smith manual, Establishing the Cause of Zion. Please try to read this lesson before church. To print out this lesson, use this link:

This week we have 3 questions for our council. They are:

1. Why is making your home more Zion-like important to your family?
2. How can we make our Elder's Quorum more Zion-like?
3. Individually, what part do you play in establishing Zion?

A couple weeks ago, we talked about service, and we have a few service projects lined up. While we are waiting for those, let's all remember our neighbors and serve those whom we live around us.

Also remember our missionaries, to pray and look for those who are open to hearing the gospel.

We love you and pray and think about you often.

Almost time for school to start again!

Some of the brethren are probably celebrating this a little too much. Hopefully those Elders that had children that were out of school this summer were able to spend time with them and have some great memories together. Remember that this is a great opportunity to give your children a Father's blessing.

This week's lesson is from the Joseph Smith manual, Chapter 14, Words of Hope and Consolation at the Time of Death. This week, we will have a full lesson, without a counsel, but we would like to think about these questions as you ponder and read this lesson before Sunday:

1. How do I prepare for death (either your own or someone you love?)

2. Why do we (as Latter-Day Saints) look at death as a good thing and not bad like the world feels.

Click here to read the lesson:

Remember next Saturday, the 16th, we have a Back to School Bash at the Munn's house. We'll be playing Volleyball, swimming, eating hot dogs and snacks and much more. This will be a potluck activity, so please bring a snack, dessert, or dish.

Also, this Saturday, we'll be starting our Saturday Morning Sports. We have 2 events, one at Harmony, which is a 5k run and another at the chapel, which will be basketball. Both start at 8am.

Last week, our lesson was on service and we had many service ideas brought up. We will be reporting on Sunday our assignments that we were given. Please try to contact those organizations before then, if possible, so we can get out and serve our community!

The month is very new, but let's try to get our home teaching as soon as possible. Remember it's Hurricane Season, let's make sure our home teaching families are prepared!

Thanks for everything that you do!

We love you,

Jon

CAN YOU BELIEVE WE ARE INTO AUGUST ALREADY?

Yup, it's time to get those 72 hour kits ready for action...it's hurricane season! We hope everyone is preparing their families for any potential storms that could come our way.

If you would like more info on how to prepare a 72 hour kit or any other good storm precautions, please talk with a member of our presidency or the bishopric.

There will also be information coming around about emergency contacts and response teams that are needed in times of major storms. Brother Bright and others will be contacting you with more details on how we can all help.

This week, for the first time ever, we get to hear from Steve Wagner as he teaches our quorum about service. The lesson will come from the priesthood session talk by Bishop H. David Burton, "And Who Is My Neighbor?" Here is the link: http://lds.org/conference/talk/display/0,5232,23-1-851-18,00.html

Our council question will be in three forms:

  1. What can you do as an INDIVIDUAL to serve your neighbors?
  2. What can we do as an ELDERS QUORUM to serve our neighbors?
  3. What can we do as a WARD to serve our neighbors?

We also wanted to officially announce our EQ back to school bash on August 16th starting at 6:00 pm at the Munns house. There will be swimming, volleyball, hotdogs, and fun for your whole family. You can also rest assured that we'll have some sort of competition...as usual.

The spiritual thought for this week comes from the lesson: "The things you do for yourself are gone when you are gone, but the things that you do for others remain as your legacy." - Kalu Iche Kalu, measles campaign coordinator for the Aba Nigeria Stake

Thank you to each of you for your hard work and dedication to our quorum. We love you all and look forward to seeing you on Sunday.
